Hong Kong Trade Mission

Hong Kong Dongguan Trade Mission 2019

North America Investment Association (NAIA) is Canada's forerunner in developing the Belt and Road markets. To promote Canadian exports, NAIA will organize a very promising Trade Mission to visit Hong Kong and Dongguan of the Guangdong Province of China in June, 2019. The Hong Kong Dongguan Trade Mission 2019 is a well-planned two stop trade mission targeting very promising markets.

  • BRIFE (HK) 2019 targets vast markets with great potential

Firstly, NAIA will organize a Canada Pavilion to participate in the second Belt & Road International Food Expo (BRIFE 2019) to be held in Hong Kong on June 11-13, 2019. The Belt & Road covers over 4.3 billion population having economic growth of 6.28% per annum, double-fold of average worldwide rate. This huge and rapidly growing emerging market is Canada's most promising market for export expansion.

BRIFE 2019 targets potential buyers in the three major market segments: (1) buyers from countries along the Belt and Road including Southeast Asia, South Asia, the Middle East, Central Asia, Russia, Eastern Europe, etc.; (2) buyers from Mainland China; and 3) local buyers in Hong Kong. Hong Kong is a super-connector with a well-developed entrepot trade. With the high-speed rail and the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge, Buyers from mainland China, especially the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area, can easily visit and buy in Hong Kong. Therefore, the size of Hong Kong's local food and consumer goods market cannot be ignored. Especially, while the Canada-China relationship has been rapidly frozen recently, Canadian companies can take advantage of Hong Kong’s unique entrepot position, and its many trading companies to expand their exports to China.

BRIFE 2019 is expected to attract about 15,000 professional visitors/buyers from 50 countries. It has six Theme Zones. The Agrifood Zone, Food & Drinks Zone, Wine & Spirits Zone, and Halal Food Zones attract global food trade buyers, such as importers and exporters, wholesalers and retailers, chain food stores, restaurants and hotels, to meet the diversified food needs of life, health and fashion around the world. The Professional Services, Equipment & Investment Zone invites relevant investment promotion agencies in the countries and regions along the Belt and Road to highlight investment environment and cooperation projects, and to explore opportunities for B2B and G2B investment and cooperation projects. The Food & Catering Franchise Zone provides a springboard for overseas brands and international franchises to enter the Belt and Road markets.

  • Dongguan can be Canadian agrifood distribution centre in Greater Bay Area

Secondly, NAIA will hold the Canada-Dongguan Trade Fair at the Dongguan International Convention and Exhibition Centre on June 15-16, 2019 with the support of Dongguan Economic Development Corporation (DEDC) and Dongguan General Chamber of Commerce (DGCC). Dongguan is one of the first open cities in China. In recent years, it has transformed from a famous world factory to an innovative city.

In 2018, Dongguan's GDP reached RMB 827.8bn, and private economy accounts for 49.6% of Dongguan’s GDP; its economic growth was 7.4%; total import and export reached RMB 1341.8bn, of which imports were RMB 546.3bn. With very vital economic development and foreign trade, Dongguan is Canada's best target market for expanding exports.

Dongguan people have a higher than average living standard in China. They tend to love Canadian food products. However, Canadian agri-food products has very small share in the Chinese market. The Canada-Dongguan Trade Fair will give Canadian companies a very good opportunity to showcase Canadian high quality food products and other services and products. There are many import/export companies and wholesale companies in Dongguan. They can distribute the Canadian food products to other cities and towns in the Greater Bay Area.
